Children from our General Gymnastics classes are selected to become squad members if we feel they show particular promise.
The youngest group of beginners (training 2.5hrs per week) start at 5 years old. Children then move on up through the squad ranks aiming to eventually join the elite squad (training 25hrs per week), from which our gymnasts compete at national competitions.
We take our training seriously and each week the programme is specifically designed for each group in order to prepare them for the various competitions that take place throughout the year.
There are two routes gymnasts can take. Those who take part in district level competitions concentrate on floor, vault and trampette work. Other gymnasts take the Olympic Artistic Route, meaning the girls train to perform on bar, beam, floor and vault whilst the boys compete on rings, pommel, high bar, parallel bars, floor and vault.
We have a very strong team of highly qualified coaches who work closely with the gymnasts to ensure their continued progression. We are privileged to have our squad groups headed by Levi, a Romanian ex-international gymnast who works with our squad boys, and Emma Baskerville, who works tirelessly with our squad girls, both of whom regularly lead our gymnasts to success in competitions.
