


BASKERVILLES REPORTS AND PUBLICITY 2010Baskervilles Host Somerset Floor and Vault Competition
Over 100 gymnasts, from 5 gym clubs in Somerset, descended on Baskervilles School of Gymnastics last weekend to take part in the annual Somerset Floor and Vault Competition. The competition was divided into age groups and levels of ability, ranging from Under 8 to Over 12 and from Pre Levels to Advanced Level.
In the youngest age group, Under 8, at Pre Levels Evie Carey shone for Baskervilles coming 3rd on vault, 6th on floor and winning a bronze medal overall. Lucia Guest vaulted well to finish 4th and was 6th overall. Esther Hewett performed well with a 6th place on floor.
At Under 10 Pre Levels Elise Maylor was the pick of the Baskervilles Gymnasts, coming 3rd on floor, 6th on vault and winning a silver medal overall. Georgina Gildersleeve came 1st on vault and finished 4th overall. Edie Gudmunsen came 3rd on vault and 5th overall whilst Megan Davis came 4th on vault and 6th overall. Georgia Hennessy finished 5th on vault and Emily Romero-Shaw came equal 6th on floor with Felicity Lloyd and Georgia Morris, all from Baskervilles.
In the Under12 Pre Levels there was a clean sweep for Baskervilles of all the medals except one! Jemma Guest was the Golden Girl taking gold on floor vault and overall floor and vault. Sophia Millard came equal 2nd on vault, 3rd on floor and won silver overall. Jasmin Hennessy claimed bronze overall and came equal 2nd on vault whilst Megan Fortune came 3rd on vault and 4th overall. Lauren Beckles achieved 4th place on floor, 6th on vault and 5th overall and Caitlin Mazza secured 5th place on vault.
In the final Pre Levels age group, Over 12, Baskervilles were represented by 5 gymnasts. Caitlin Whiteley proved to be the best, winning a bronze medal overall and coming 1st on the vault. Maddie Wheeler followed close behind with 2nd place on the vault and 4th overall. Martha Wells finished 5th on the vault and shared 6th place overall with Lucy Baldwin, who came 4th on the floor.
In the Intermediate Level there were only two age groups, Under and Over 12. The Under 12 age group was the most competitive event of the day with 18 gymnast taking part. Bree Warren came 3rd on vault, 6th on floor and 4th overall, Lily Reid came 2nd on vault and 5th overall, whilst Freya Money came 4th on floor and Lottie Tugwell finished 6th on vault.
Baskervilles had 5 gymnasts in the Intermediate Over 12 age group. Francesca Ince performed the best on the day and came 4th on floor and 4th overall. Shannon Moysey finished 4th on floor and 5th overall while Megan Norman was very consistent achieving 6th place on floor, vault and overall. Stephanie Miche finished 4th and Amy Kinnear 5th on vault.
The final group was Advanced Over 12, this was an all Baskervilles affair and the standard of the gymnasts was very high. Sarah Taylor became Baskervilles second Golden Girl of the day, winning gold on floor vault and overall. Ada-Jane Moore performed excellently on vault to come 2nd and was 3rd on floor to claim the overall silver medal. Louise Screen executed a near faultless floor routine to come 2nd and was 3rd on vault to win the bronze medal overall. Katie Kinnear was consistently good on both pieces to come 4th overall with Martha Witty 5th.
Baskerville’s Boys Shine in London Eight gymnasts from Baskerville’s School of Gymnastics in Bath travelled to London to take part in the Men’s London Development Open on 14th March 2010. Thomas Paradise, 8, competed in the Under 8 competition and had an excellent day and showed considerable poise in producing neat routines. Thomas was rewarded for his efforts by winning the overall bronze medal. Thomas was brilliant on the pommel horse producing a near perfect routine to win the gold medal. He then followed this with a gold medal on vault and also finished in 2nd place on rings and 3rd on high bar. Alex Weeks, 9, competed at Under 10 level. Alex was impressive throughout and missed out on the gold on vault by the very smallest of margins finishing in 2nd place. Alex was also excellent on high bar where he was 3rd and he finished in a creditable 16th place overall. In the Under 11 competition Baskerville’s had six competitors. Daniel Cheung, 10, demonstrated that he is a very elegant gymnast finishing in overall 5th place. Daniel’s best apparatus was parallel bars where he was 4th and he was also 5th on rings and 6th on both vault and pommel horse. Matthew Simonds, 11, had a brilliant day performing a fantastic high bar to win the gold. Matthew also equalled Daniel on pommel horse for 6th place and was 9th overall. Toby Lewis, 10, performed well throughout the competition finishing in 11th place overall . He had a very good result on pommel horse where he was 6th=, and also impressed with a neat parallel bars. Harry Andrews, 11, had a good day performing good routines, his best pieces were floor and rings and he was 26th overall. Owen Andrews, 10, and Oliver Paradise, 10, were competing at their first London Open and performed very well. Owen finished in overall 33rd place and scored particularly well on floor and pommel horse. Oliver finished in overall 38th place and performed best on floor and vault.
