Gala fun at Baskerville's School of Gymnastics
The annual Christmas Gala took place at Baskerville's School of Gymnastics over the weekend of 12th and 13th December 2008 With three performances over two days the gymnasts and their coaches had been working hard in recent weeks to perfect their routines. The gymnasts ranged from pre school children who were performing in their first gala to gymnasts who had competed in the British Championships 2008. There was even a masked performance from the coaching staff which provided much entertainment as the audience had to work out who was the dancers behind the masks.
The gala began with all participating children performing a warm up routine together to “run run Rudolph” which got the audience into the festive spirit. The preschool gymnasts and beginners squads performed a beautiful routine as elves and the elite recreational class demonstrated their vaulting expertise and danced with scarves. Vicky's Tuesday class and Thursday class each performed their routines all dressed for winter in gloves and hats. There were individual floor routines performed by Lottie Tugwell, Thomas Paradise, Nancy Hunt, Ludwig Rosenow, Megan Norman, William Osborne, Katie Kinnear, George Brown, Clara Whitely, Alex Weeks, Lizzie Franklin and Ali Whitehead. The annual Gymnast of the Year award was won by 11 year old Harry Wall for his fantastic achievement in becoming Under 12 British Champion on Pommel Horse. Harry and his team mates George Brown and Jake Morris who also competed at British Championships performed an apparatus routine with the boys performing on rings, high bar and mushroom.
The Development Girls were all in red performing their Christmas routine. The Girls Squad performed a routine to Katy Perry's “Hot 'n' Cold” whereas the Competition Girls became Pussycat Dolls dancing to “When I grow up” and the Senior Competition Girls demonstrated their rendition of “Mamma Mia”. The Boys General, Competition and Development Squads became kung fu experts and the Boys Elite Squad performed their adaptation of Swan Lake with the Junior Squad as frogs and the seniors as swans. The gala concluded in true style with the team tumble which saw boy and girl gymnasts performing together in a demonstration of their tumbling skills in a criss cross formation. This somersaulting spectacular rounded off not only a fantastic show but also a very successful year for the gymnasts who will in January training hard to ensure that 2009 is even more successful.
