Written by   in
IMG_5781Two of Baskervilles Gymnastics Club’s Elite Girls landed overall top 10 positions at the 2016 Welsh Artistic Championships this weekend. The competition was held at the Sport Wales National Centre on Sunday 28th February.

For 11-year-old Kiera Williams, the Welsh Championships were the first time she has competed at such a high level. Kiera competed in the Espoir Category, for gymnasts aged 11 and 12. Kiera performed a flic layout on the beam for the first time ever, managing to stay on the beam. Kiera came 6th on vault, with a high score of 12.566, and placed 9th overall in her category.

15-year-old Bree Warren competed in the Senior Competition for the first time ever, and managed an impressive 4th place overall. Like Kiera, Bree impressed on vault, competing her piked yurchenko vault for the first time ever, bagging fantastic 3rd-place-winning score of 12.216.

Elite girls’ coach Emma Baskerville commented, ‘the girls did a great job and performed to a very high standard, representing the club extremely well’.

Both girls are now looking forward to the English Championships, which they will compete in in mid-March.

Jacob Mclean performed best on vault and won overall bronze. Zack Glasgow and Clem Nacchia competed well across both pieces and finished sixth and eighth respectively.

IMG_1822The Under 7 competition saw Thomas Coles, who competed well, winning bronze medals on both floor and vault and finishing second in the overall competition. Henry Mclean had an outstanding competition with a gold medal on vault, and finished inside the top six overall. Felix Bailey and Colby-Jay Barnes competed respectably throughout to finish inside the top 10.

Cory White was Baskervilles’ sole competitor in the Under 9 competition. Cory performed well on floor, finishing just outside the medals in fourth place, and finished fifth overall.

Boys head coach Levi was extremely pleased with the results, and would like to share his gratitude to all coaches, volunteers and parents for all of their efforts.
