West Country League final 2011

It was the final competition in the league on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th November, where 11 girls from the Elite Squad at Baskerville’s took part and performed excellently, trying out new skills and presenting their work with style and elegance.

The B-Team were up against some tough competition from other big clubs in the south west; all 5 girls who competed in the team were extremely focused and had high-level skills included in their routines; some of which had never been performed before.

The girls were fourth overall in the final competition with a score 187.49, and fourth overall in the whole B-League Division 1. They also moved up two places from their 6th place start at the beginning of the year. A great achievement by all the girls who have worked so hard with their new difficult elements.

29 girls took part and the top scorer from Baskerville’s was Lily Reid who came 9th overall – she was also the top scorer on the Bars and Beam. On Vault and Floor Bree Warren was the highest scorer for Baskerville’s. Freya Money was only one out of two girls who had the maximum start value including the 3 bonuses on the Beam. Sophia Millard and Amy Luscombe both had a good competition, performing consistently with no mistakes. Amy’s calm and confident routine on the Beam scored her 12.57 – her highest score of the competition. The team came third overall on Floor and Vault.

In the younger A-Team, competition experience throughout the year paid off and hard work in training meant that they came 2nd overall in the final competition with a score of 178.34 and 2nd overall in the whole A League Division 1. They moved up from 6th place at the beginning of the year and the gymnasts’ four place upward move was a great achievement by them all.

Abbie Lau was Baskerville’s top scorer in the team coming 4th overall out of 18 girls. She was 1st on Vault and 4th on Floor. Megan Davis was the winner on the Floor with a top score of 11.90. Edie Gudmensen had a very good competition performing well on all four pieces, she made very few mistakes and won herself a overall score of 45.10 putting her in 7th place. Esther Hewett, Georgina Gildersleeve and Elisabeth Osborn all performed confident routines and helped the team come 2nd on three out of the four pieces.

Coaches Emma Baskerville and Tony Egri were so pleased with the results, saying, “The girls have worked so hard and we are very pleased with all their efforts. They have really matured as competitors and are starting to really look like gymnasts. ”

 

Success for Baskerville’s at South West Apparatus Championships.

Ten competitors from Baskerville’s School of Gymnastics Boys Squad took part in the annual South West Apparatus Championships. The boys had a very successful day putting in some personal best performances and winning 6 individual medals and 1 team medal.

The first event was the compulsory competition where the boys competed the same routines on Pommel Horse, Rings, Parallel bars and High Bar, as well as performing voluntary routines on Floor and Vault.

In the under 10′s compulsory competition, Ollie Woodhouse (10), Charlie Taylor (8), Robbie Andrews (9) and Henry Brooker (8) competed for Baskerville’s. All of the boys performed very impressive routines in a very high standard competition of 38 competitors. Ollie was Baskerville’s highest scorer finishing in an excellent 10th place overall. He was consistently impressive throughout and on Vault he really excelled finishing in 5th place. Charlie also had a brilliant competition finishing in 14th place overall. He had a near faultless Parallel Bars routine which earned him 7th place. Robbie impressed during the competition producing neat routines and finishing in overall 24th place. His best apparatus was Pommel Horse. Henry demonstrated how much he had improved in recent months and finished in overall 26th place. He also gave a very impressive Pommel Horse routine.

In the Under 12 compulsory competition James Conibere (11) competed for Baskerville’s. James competed very well in a competition, which was, again, of a very high standard. James applied himself fantastically to finish in overall 8th place. He performed a brilliant Vault where he came 3rd and he also had a very neat Floor routine, which earned him 7th place.

The afternoon’s competition was for gymnasts competing in voluntary routines. In addition to competing in their own age group the gymnasts also had the opportunity to compete for their county in the Intercounties competition.

Alex Weeks (11) and Matthew Simonds (12) competed for Baskerville’s in the Under-12 competition. Alex had a brilliant competition providing a display of high level gymnastics and winning the overall bronze medal. His difficult routines earned him top-five places on all apparatus. Alex won a gold medal for an excellent Vault and a silver medal for an impressive Pommel Horse routine. Matthew applied himself well throughout the competition producing neat routines and he finished in overall 7th place. He was a valuable member of the Somerset team and his highlight was an excellent Vault where he came 5th.

The Under-14 competition saw three competitors from Baskerville’s compete. Harry Wall (14), Jake Morris (14) and Sean Madigan (13) all performed difficult routines on all apparatus. Harry was Baskerville’s top scorer finishing in overall 4th place. He had a fantastic and complicated Pommel Horse routine which earned him the gold medal and he also performed a brilliant Vault which earned him a 2nd gold medal. Sean was close behind in 5th place overall. He had one of his best competitions to date performing well on all apparatus and excelling on Pommel Horse where he won the bronze medal. Jake had a good competition on all apparatus and finished in overall 6th place in a close-run competition. He performed excellently on the Parallel Bars where he came 4th. He also earned himself 4th place for his impressive High Bar routine.

Alex, Matthew, Harry, Sean and Jake all formed the Somerset team that took part in the Six Piece Intercounties competition. The boys’ strengths complimented each other and they were rewarded with the fantastic result of the team silver medal.

All the boys have worked very hard throughout the year. Some will compete in the Intercounties Floor and Vault in November, and all gymnasts are hoping for continued success in 2012.

Baskervilles District Competition 2011

On Sunday, 13th November over 100 girls took part in the District competition at Baskerville’s gym in Bath. There were four different age groups with girls as young as 6-years old competing on Floor, Vault and Trampet.

In the under sevens age group, 25 competitors performed in the morning, with 15 of those from the home team Baskerville’s. Top scorers of the day were Katie Mayall and Alice Gane winning gold overall with a score of 34.50. Katie received three medals on individual pieces: gold on Trampet and bronze on Floor and Vault. Alice won gold on Floor and silver on Vault and Trampet. Mia Hyden was the winner on Vault with a score of 11.15 and was silver meadlist on the Trampet – she came 3rd overall. Alex Bryant was the second highest scorer on the Floor with a score of 12.00; she won silver medal and came 6th overall. In 5th place was Kiera Williams and in fourth Mia Randolph.

The largest competition of the day, with 36 girls competing, was the under-nines age group which saw our top scorer of the day,  Jasmine Andrews, win two individual medals, coming first on Vault with a score of 12.10 and second on Trampet.

In the under eleven’s Georgia Morris scored an overall total of 37.60 to become gold medallist and overall champion in this age group. Georgia won individual silver medals on Floor and Trampet and bronze on Vault. Poppy Hawkins performed a beautiful Floor routine and scored 12.50 putting her in silver medal position on this piece – she came third overall in the competition.

Baskerville’s girls were all in the top 6 overall positions in the under 13 competition with Beth Mitchell coming 6th, Megan Fortune 5th, Caitlin Mazza and Emma Russell in 3rd and Lauren Beckles in 2nd. On individual pieces Lauren Beckles was the silver medal winner on the Floor with a score of 12.60, Megan Fortune came second on Trampet with Caitlin Mazza in 3rd, and on Vault Emma Russell came 2nd. Emma  Russell won three individual medals, bronze on Floor and Vault, and Silver on trampet.
