BASKERVILLES CHRISTMAS GALA

Audiences were thrilled by a series of three exceptional gymnastic displays held at Baskerville’s Gym on Englishcombe Lane.  There were three sell-out performances held; one last Friday evening and two on Saturday.  The Gala is an opportunity for the club and gymnasts to showcase their skills and talents in a non-competitive environment and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The Gala display was immensely varied ranging from pre-school children, through Recreational and Pre-competition groups up to displays by Elite Squad boys and girls including a number of National Champions. There were many aspects of gymnastics, acrobatics and dance including some skills that drew gasps of excitement from the sell-out audience.

One of the most unusual displays was a Round the World dance montage from the Boys including Kossaks, Greek dancing, Martial Arts and he Hakka War dance inspired by the Rugby World Cup.

The highlight of the Gala Show was the dance performed by the coaches and instructors which included not only Barbara Baskerville but also her three grown-up children, Emma, Vicky and Paul. So popular was this coaches dance that it will now feature in the South West Festival to be held in Taunton next month.

Also travelling to Taunton will be the girls from two Gym Fusion groups who will be amongst the first gymnasts to get involved in this new branch of display gymnastics.

Congratulations to Lily Reid who was presented with the Gymnast of the Year in recognition of her hard work and dedication throughout 2011.

The gymnasts all have one further week of training before a well-earned Christmas break.
